Do you have the right tools?

God spoke to me this morning, unexpectedly but it was so significant it really made me question and think... am I using the right tools?

Stay with me as this may sound a little wacky but I love how God can use anything to talk to us. I was cutting some bagels this morning for my breakfast, so i grabbed a butter knife (a normal knife to spread nothing fancy), as I cut into the bagel and opened it I could see all jagged lines, parts crumbling away and breaking onto the plate, and it was very uneven. I heard God say:

"Look what happens when you don't use the right tool"

It was in that moment I decided to get the bread knife, this knife was purposefully made to cut bread, it has jagged edges and is much larger and longer in size than a normal butter knife. I cut the bagel with much more ease, and as it came apart in two the edges were smooth, no bagel had crumbled away and I could notice it was much smoother in surface.

It was in this moment that I could see when we use the right tools the foundation is much smoother and even to build upon, when we use the wrong tools it is uneven, and a smooth surface is not effective. You can see the difference in the image above.

It is the same with God, when we are not using the right tools for our life, ministry, family, spending time with God we cannot be as effective in the Kingdom of God. David and Goliath tells us that when David had the Armour on he could not move properly, it was too heavy. Instead when he slayed Goliath what tool did he use? He had a slingshot, something he was familiar with, something God had already taught him how to use.

God gives each of us specific tools and gifts that He has put in our lives for a reason. Sometimes we forget that God has put those things in us and we see someone else using another tool or gift and want those instead of what we already have. But like the bagels if we do not use the right tools it will not be able to build upon, it will be uneven, it will crumble and will not be able to have what God intended it to have.

So ask yourself today.... Do you have the right tools?

If the answer is yes...great! Ask God how to direct you to use those tools effectively for his glory.

If the answer is no then what can you do to change it? Ask God how to change the tools you are using for the ones He has given you.

I love that when we remove the distractions in our life and get up with intent for the glory of God we can hear Him in everything we do. Wherever we are, whatever it is we are doing, when God speaks we must listen and today he wants you to know that it's time to exchange the tools for His tools.
